Salih, al-Kadhimi stress need to achieve trust in electoral process
Salih and al-Kadhimi described the objections to the conduct of the electoral process as "acceptable within the legal context".
The Iraqi President Barham Salih and the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi issued on Friday, a joint statement on elections and constitutional commitments.
"We affirm that recourse to the people is a fundamental and constitutional principle as a source of legitimacy of government, and that election is a national entitlement and a peaceful democratic path to return to citizens and their choices, and the need to achieve Iraqis' confidence in the electoral process to express their true will," the statement said.
Commenting on complaints, the statement added that "objections based on the conduct of the electoral process, are tolerable within the legal context", stressing that the Electoral Commission and the competent judiciary will follow up on this file and take full care and seriousness to consider all complaints and appeals filed on the electoral process with high professionalism.
The two Iraqi figures urged Iraqi parties to hold a responsible national position, taking into account the best interests of the country and avoiding any escalation that may affect peace and security.
Salih and al-Kadhimi also urged the need for concerted efforts to meet national entitlements that await the country by forming a parliament that reflects the will of the people and responds to their reform and development aspirations.
