The Saudi delegation responsible for the re-launching of the country's embassy in Syria has arrived in Damascus, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday.

"The Saudi technical team, headed by Mr. Ghazi bin Rafi Al-Anzi, met with His Excellency the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ayman Sousan, and the Chief of Protocol at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Anfwan Nabeeb, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital, Damascus," the Saudi Ministry tweeted.

Since then delegations of both countries have exchanged multiple visits which culminated in Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad's invitation to the 32nd Arab League summit that was held in the Saudi city of Jeddah on May 19.

Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad held talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MBS) following the conclusion of the event as the two discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and developments in the Arab region "in light of the positive atmosphere in inter-Arab relations that reflects a collective approach toward common visions that culminated in the Jeddah summit," the Presidency indicated in a statement.

Saudi Arabia announced the closure of its embassy in Damascus back in March 2012, after relations between the countries were cut off due to the war in the Syrian Arab Republic.
