Scholz slams using arms supplies for attacks on Russia as 'unwise'
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says China has not denounced Russia's actions yet, and as such, the West must not be "illusioned" by its call for peace between Russia and Ukraine.

Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, stated that it would be unreasonable if Russia's territory would be targeted with the weaponry sent to Ukraine.
In an interview for ZDF TV channel, Scholz said, "It’s absolutely obvious that everything we are doing is acceptable," adding, "However, at the same time it’s always right to be wise and that’s why it would be unwise if those who are using the weapons which we are supplying [to Kiev] for example, could carry out an attack on Russia’s soil."
The German Chancellor further explained that "this is on what we have also agreed, and we agree that this is not going to happen."
It is worth reminding that earlier in January, Scholz reiterated that Germany will not send fighter jets to Kiev, as Ukraine increases the call for more advanced weapons from the West to strengthen its position on the battlefield.
'No illusions' over China
Scholz, on Thursday, also noted that Germany must not have any "illusions" when it comes to China despite attempting to mediate a peace process between Ukraine and Russia.
"We should have no illusions about China. They have up until now not taken a stand against Russia," Scholz told ZDF.
The comments from the Chancellor came as China was set to announce a peace proposal for the war in Ukrainian later this week, just in time for the anniversary of Russia's special operation in Ukraine on February 24.
Earlier on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, that China remains committed along with Russia to maintaining a positive trend in developing relations among the global powers, and together, both countries stand determined to move firmly toward establishing a multipolar world order.
"No matter how the international situation changes, China has been and remains committed, together with Russia, to making efforts to maintain the positive trends in the development of relations among the big powers," Wang said during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
"Despite the volatility of the international situation, China and Russia always maintain strategic determination, firmly and confidently move in line with the formation of a multipolar world," Wang added.
