Senegalese President dismisses government ahead of shuffle
The current Senegalese Prime Minister, Amadou Ba, will lead the new government, as per an announcement by the presidency.
Senegalese President Macky Sall has dismissed the government and reappointed Prime Minister Amadour Ba to lead a new government, according to an announcement by the presidency on Friday.
“The move is seen as a response to public dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the economy and calls for change,” a statement from the presidency read.
It is expected that the current Prime Minister, Amadou Ba, will lead the new government, as per the announcement.
It is worth noting that the Senegalese government functioned without the position of prime minister since the government approved a constitutional amendment in April 2019 to abolish the position as part of the country's transition to a presidential system.
President Macky Sall reinstated the position in September 2022, appointing the former Foreign Minister, Amadou Ba, as Prime Minister after two years of the abolition.
In August of the previous year, Senegal announced its readiness to send military forces to Niger if the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) decided to intervene.
The Senegalese Foreign Minister Aissata Tall affirmed her country's commitment to the Economic Community of West African States.
At the time, Burkina Faso and Mali, in a joint statement, considered any military intervention in Niger as a declaration of war against them.
