South Korea holds meetings on UNGA sidelines, promotes World Expo bid
This comes after South Korea submitted a bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan, competing against Rome and Riyadh.
According to South Korean media on Friday, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol conducted a series of bilateral meetings with foreign leaders on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Thursday in an effort to promote his country's bid to host the 2030 World Expo, South Korean media reported.
He convened with his Ecuadorian counterpart, Guillermo Lasso, and discussed trade, investment partnership, and the signing of a strategic economic cooperation agreement, as per a report by Yonhap.
The report added that separate bilateral meetings were held with Saint Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Terrance Drew, Paraguayan President Santiago Pena, Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio, North Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski, and Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, among other world leaders.

During his address to the UNGA, Yoon proposed establishing an international organization under the UN to tackle the challenges of digital ethics and those posed by the abuse of AI and digital technologies.
