Sullivan: ISIS Serious Threat to Kabul Airport
The US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan signals danger of ISIS threats to Kabul airport, and Joe Biden holds a meeting to discuss Afghanistan developments.
Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Adviser, reported today that the threat of ISIS to Kabul airport is real and acute, telling CNN that "It is persistent. And it is something we're focused on with every tool in our arsenal."
Sullivan added that the Taliban have been warned with a fierce response by the US if they attempt to harm Americans, adding that information from sources in the field have caused the US to treat threats of ISIS with great caution.
The adviser disclosed that Al-Qaeda is not believed to be a threat to Washington currently, emphasizing that the US is attempting to establish a safe evacuation for civilians and Afghans who have worked with the US.
Coincidingly, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki disclosed that President Joe Biden will hold a virtual meeting with G7 country leaders next Tuesday.
Psaki added that the meeting will discuss the situation in Afghanistan, including the provision of humanitarian aid to Afghan refugees.
In recent days, various countries began evacuating diplomats, foreigners, and Afghans from Kabul airport, while the US warned its citizens not to approach the airport gates.
A senior Taliban official stated on Sunday, today, that the US is "responsible" for the chaos at Kabul airport, where thousands of Afghans are demanding evacuation.
Amir Khan Muttaqi, an official in the Taliban ridiculed the US alluding to the failure to maintain order at the airport.
