Sullivan: Withdrawing from JCPOA disastrous strategic mistake
The US-Israeli differences over Iran linger, with the former insisting that diplomacy is the right path to pursue with the Western Asian country.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan confirmed to Israeli channel Kan that withdrawing from the nuclear agreement was a disastrous strategic mistake because it allowed the Iranian nuclear program to develop its capabilities, according to him.
Responding to the Israeli channel reporter's question about the possibility of reaching the point of admitting that the nuclear agreement will not stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, he said that behind closed doors, talks say this will happen in a short period of time.
Commenting on Israeli threats to carry out a military strike on Iran, Sullivan said the US continues to believe that the best and safest way to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon is through diplomacy, deterrence, and pressure.
A few days ago, Sullivan visited the occupied Palestinian territories and met with Israeli occupation Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and discussed the Iranian nuclear program, as well as the Vienna Talks.
The US Advisor mentioned that his visit to "Israel' was necessary before the next round of talks in Vienna.
Israeli media pointed out that Sullivan's visit did not resolve differences with the US over Iran, and that the Security Advisor did not bring any real good news during his visit.
Sullivan's visit also comes after Israeli media reported that the White House has not responded, for at least 3 weeks, to Bennett's request for a phone call with US President Joe Biden.
