Sunnis to fight battle of honor against Takfiris: Iraqi Scholar Assoc.
The Iraqi Scholars Association confirms that "the Sunnis in Iraq "are too wise to be enticed into the trap of sectarianism and bloodshed," following the rise of terrorist attacks in Syria.
The Iraqi Scholars Association asserted that the Sunnis in Iraq will rise to protect their country "and will fight the battle of honor against the Takfiris,” stressing that they "are too wise to be enticed into the trap of sectarianism and bloodshed."
The Association added in a statement on Wednesday that "it is not surprising that those who supported the terrorist organization ISIS in 2014 and viewed them as tribal revolutionaries would now openly back the militants in Syria."
It also referred in its statement to the "Syrian opposition" and its actions, saying, "What kind of opposition is this that kills innocent people and mutilates the bodies of victims?"
Since the rise of terrorist acts in Syria, Iraq has expressed full solidarity with the country, both militarily and politically.
In a statement on Tuesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized that Iraq will not remain passive in the face of the dire situation unfolding in Syria, particularly the ethnic cleansing of various groups and sects.
Al-Sudani highlighted that Iraq had previously suffered from terrorism and the impact of extremist groups controlling regions in Syria. He emphasized that Baghdad would not allow this to happen again and would work tirelessly to safeguard both its security and that of Damascus.
He also stressed the importance of respecting Syria’s unity and sovereignty, noting that "Islamic countries do not need internal division," further criticizing these groups for failing to support the Palestinian people or condemn the genocide in Gaza.
