Syria slams US occupation 'brutal attack' on areas in Deir Ezzor
Syria's Foreign Ministry says the US occupation justifies its acts of aggression by fabricating lies about the attacked sites.
Syria slammed on Saturday the savage aggression carried out by the US occupation forces on several areas in Deir Ezzor Governorate that resulted in the killing of a number of people, the wounding of others, and material damage.
“Syria condemns the brutal attack launched by US forces against some areas in Deir Ezzor Governorate, which caused several fatalities, injuries, and property damage,” the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The US false claims about the attacked sites are nothing but lies in an attempt to justify its heinous aggression, which is a blatant breach of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Ministry added.
The statement considered that these violent attacks aim to smokescreen the US occupation's continued looting of Syria's resources, on top of which is oil, and are an extension to the aggressions carried out by the Israeli occupation and ISIS terrorist groups against the country and its people.
Syria is committed to ending the US occupation of parts of the country and to liberate all its lands from Americans and their proxies and militias, the statement added.
The Arab country also urged countries worldwide to condemn the US acts of aggression and support Syria in protecting and preserving its territorial and people's unity.
The US military occupies parts of the provinces of Al-Hasakah, Raqqa, Aleppo, and Deir Ezzor, where the largest Syrian oil and gas fields are located, and has for long employed the alleged "ISIS threat" as a pretext to continue its illegal occupation of northeastern Syrian territories. The Syrian government has repeatedly called the US military presence in the provinces an occupation aimed at plundering the country's resources, mainly oil and grain.
In December of 2022, Syria's Foreign Ministry said the US occupation forces and their affiliated military groups' systematic lootings of Syrian oil, wheat, and other national resources have amounted to direct losses valued at $25.9 billion and indirect losses valued at over $86 billion. The Ministry then demanded the UN to once again adopt urgent steps to cease the violation of international law by the US and its allies and ensure compensation for these violations.
US occupation under fire
Several rockets and drones targeted on Friday US occupation bases in the Conoco gas field and Al-Omar oil field east of Deir Ezzor, Eastern Syria.
US helicopters went airborne after the attack over the US Conoco gas fields, east of the Euphrates river, while American fighter jets and artillery responded to the launching positions.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) admitted on Friday that ten rockets targeted coalition forces at the Mission Support Site Green Village compound in northeast Syria, while US officials said one US soldier was wounded.
On Thursday, a drone attack on a US occupation base in eastern Syria led to the killing of one US military contractor and the wounding of seven troops. The Defense Department said the US military responded with "precision airstrikes" in eastern Syria.
