Taliban Official: Reason Behind Kabul Attacks is Foreign Forces
A Taliban official says that the movement condemns the explosion at Kabul airport, and considers that it was caused by the presence of foreign forces in Afghanistan.
The Taliban strongly condemned the explosion that targeted civilians near Kabul airport Thursday evening.
A Turkish TV channel quoted Abdul Qahar Balkhi, a member of the Taliban's cultural committee, saying that the attack on Kabul Airport was a terrorist act that deserves global condemnation, adding that it was caused by the presence of foreign forces in the country.
Balkhi indicated, in an interview with a Turkish channel, that once foreign forces depart, such attacks will recede.
It is worth noting that the explosion which occurred near Kabul airport is an area under the supervision of the US military. A Taliban official said that a number of the movement's militants were wounded in the explosion.
Initial reports indicated that the explosion was caused by a "suicide bombing."
Reuters reported that the emergency hospital in Kabul received more than 30 wounded, while 6 people died on their way to the hospital.
Earlier today, US and Western nations issued warnings of a terrorist attack at Kabul airport, where huge crowds continued to approach the gates despite warnings from the US and its allies of possible terrorist attacks.
