Taliban: China Can Contribute to Afghanistan's Development
After the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced its willingness to aid in the economic reconstruction of Afghanistan, "Taliban" Spokesperson Suhail Shaheen says that "China can contribute to Afghanistan's development."
"Taliban" Spokesperson Suhail Shaheen said on Thursday, in an interview with Chinese TV station CGTN, that China can "contribute to the development of Afghanistan in the future."
Shaheen's statements coincided with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's statement, where he called upon the international community not to use "Afghanistan as a geopolitical battleground."
The Chinese Foreign Ministry's statement also said that the "international community should encourage and guide it [Afghanistan] in a positive direction instead of exerting more pressure."
The Foreign Ministry's Spokesperson, Zhao Lijian also stated yesterday in a press conference that "China will continue to support peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan, and provide help for socioeconomic development in Afghanistan as our ability permits."
He also added that "the Afghan situation has seen major changes recently. The Afghan people aspire for peace and stability after over 40 years of war and chaos," emphasizing that China hopes that all parties in Afghanistan would resolve differences through dialogue, averting new wars, preventing humanitarian disasters, and facilitating a smooth transition in Afghanistan.
Two days ago, China accused the United States of leaving behind an "awful mess" in its wake as it left Afghanistan, recalling "footage that has been widely circulated in the media, showing Afghan citizens attempting mass escapes at Kabul Airport."
