Tangible results still far in Vienna: Iranian sources to Al-Mayadeen
Al-Mayadeen correspondent quotes Iranian sources from Tehran's conditions in the Vienna talks.
The Iranian delegation to the Vienna talks has five demands; the most pressing of which is the lifting of JCPOA-related sanctions, Al Mayadeen correspondent quoted well-informed Iranian sources as saying.
The sources explained the demands also included a sanction-lifting verification mechanism and guarantees they asserted were a must.
The delegation also demands that Iran be compensated for all previous losses and all other parties to the Vienna agreement return to said agreement.
Iranian sources also noted that the British Foreign Secretary's statements were a rejected threatening message, ruling out that the parties to the Vienna talks would reach a conclusion soon.
The sources underscored that Iran presented two draft agreements subject to amendment. Iran is waiting for the European position, the sources explained.
The US confiscates Iranian weapons, oil
Washington's measures against Tehran saw an escalation on the eve of the new round of the Vienna talks.
The US Department of Justice announced confiscating two shipments of Iranian weapons and about a million barrels of Iranian oil products in the Arabian Sea and its vicinity.
In a statement, the ministry said, "The US government similarly seized the Iranian petroleum products from four foreign-flagged tankers in or around the Arabian Sea while en route to Venezuela."
On the other hand, the Iranian ambassador and assistant to the United Nations, Zahra Ershadi, warned against stealing Iranian oil at sea, noting that it "led to a further deterioration of the situation due to unilateral arrogant policies."
“We urge all relevant states to cooperate in order to protect the environment of this shared body of water and refrain from unilateral acts that might endanger its marine environment," she said.
Ershadi added that Iran “reiterates its commitment to rule-based maritime order for securing maritime rights and interests for all as well as ensuring that maritime activities are undertaken smoothly, including based on the international law of the sea.”
Ershadi's words came during her speech before the UN General Assembly’s meeting on oceans and the law of the sea.
Truss: Tomorrow's talks are the last chance for Iran
Just a day before discussions were set to restart, British foreign minister Liz Truss pushed Iran to sign up for the 2015 nuclear deal [JCPOA], saying it was "the final chance" to do so.
"This is really the last chance for Iran to sign up and I strongly urge them to do that because we are determined to work with our allies to prevent Iran securing nuclear weapons," she said to the Chatham House think-tank, Reuters reported.
Yesterday, the correspondent of the Iranian Tasnim news agency reported that the delegations of Iran and the P4+1 would resume the talks in Vienna on Thursday.
In a phone conversation on Monday, Ali Baqeri and Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service for Political Affairs, agreed on a date for the JCPOA talks to resume.
A new round of talks between Iran and the P4+1 (Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany) will begin On Thursday in Vienna.
