Tehran: Assassination Attempt on Al-Kadhimi Aims to Destabilize Country
Iraqi Foreign minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Amirabdollahian condemning the assassination attempt.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein AmirAbdollahian called the failed assassination of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi an attempt to destabilize security and peace in Iraq.
In a phone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, AmirAbdollahian stated that the assassination plot was masterminded by Iraq's "ill-wishers" with the goal of disrupting the country's stability and security, Iranian media reported.
Earlier, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, said the attempt was a rebellion instigated by "foreign think tanks."
Failed assassination attempt
The Iraqi prime minister's residence was attacked in the early hours of Sunday. Later, al-Kadhimi tweeted that he was fine.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said he was unhurt and appealed for "calm and restraint" after a drone attack on his residence in Baghdad's Green Zone early Sunday, amid political tensions mounting in the country.
"I'm doing fine, praise be to God, and I call for calm and restraint on the part of everyone for the good of Iraq," al-Kadhimi wrote on Twitter, after what his office called a "failed assassination attempt."
The attempt for Al-Kadhimi's terror is a new sedition that must be traced back to foreign think tanks, which have brought nothing but insecurity, discord & instability to oppressed Iraqi people through creation & support of terrorist groups & occupation of this country for years.

"Cowardly missiles and drones don't build nations," he said.
