The Jordanian Government Submits Resignation Ahead of Cabinet Reshuffle
Ahead of a cabinet reshuffle, new information has emerged about ministers in the current Jordanian government submitting their resignations.
The Jordanian channel Al-Mamlaka, announced on Sunday that ministers in the current government have submitted their resignations ahead of a cabinet reshuffle.
Official sources disclosed that this would be the fourth cabinet reshuffle in the government of Bisher Al-Khasawneh.
According to his appointment statement, Jordan's King Abdullah II appointed Al-Khasawneh "to restore citizens' confidence in the approach to dealing with the health crisis during the Covid-19 pandemic, and to calm anger over successive governments inability to fulfill promises of prosperity and curb corruption."
His administration received praise from the International Monetary Fund for handling the economy throughout the epidemic, and it negotiated a $1.3 billion loan over four years with the Fund, demonstrating confidence in Jordan's reform agenda.
Last year, Jordan's economy saw its worst recession in decades, owing to general isolation measures, border closures, and a dramatic decrease in tourism as a result of the pandemic.
Bisher Al-Khasawneh was named Prime Minister of Jordan by King Abdullah II a year ago. Al-Khasawneh had previously served as a diplomat before becoming an advisor in the Royal Court.
