The Sudanese Army Thwarts Coup
Officers and soldiers in Sudan launch a military coup against the authorities.
A Sudanese military source revealed that a "coup group" is attempting to control the situation in the country, according to Anadolu news agency.
Without giving further details, the source who spoke on condition of anonymity added that the group had tried to seize control of the Armored Corps in Khartoum.
Sudanese TV reported that there was a "failed coup attempt", pushing the masses to resist, adding that army tanks blocked the road towards the old Omdurman bridge next to Parliament.
On his account, a Member of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council Muhammad al-Faki Suleiman called on the Sudanese people to defend the country and back the transition.
Individuals who were suspected of carrying out the coup will be interrogated by the Sudanese Sovereignty Council.
