Top Iranian officials affirm support for Syria amid terrorist attack
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasizes that regional countries are capable of maintaining security without foreign forces.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has urged Islamic nations to collaborate in resolving the Syrian crisis, cautioning against foreign intervention in the West Asia region.
Speaking at a joint government and parliament session on Sunday, Pezeshkian emphasized that regional countries are capable of maintaining security without foreign forces.
“I hope that this problem that has arisen in Syria will be resolved with the help of Islamic countries, and Muslim countries will not allow conflicts within countries to become a basis for further foreign intervention in the region,” he stated.
The President reiterated Iran's commitment to peace, criticizing nations that claim to uphold human rights while perpetuating war and bloodshed. Referring to the Israeli ongoing aggression on Gaza, Pezeshkian said, “For me, as a human being, regardless of my position, it is unimaginable that a regime would allow itself to drop multi-ton bombs on women, children, and defenseless civilians in hospitals and schools.”
He condemned the loss of innocent lives, noting, “The Zionist regime has martyred ten thousand children in its wars on Gaza and Lebanon, and the self-styled human rights advocates have been only watching.” He further criticized the role of Western nations, adding, “It is shameful that this catastrophe is being carried out with the support of America and European countries and their weapons.”
Pezeshkian also addressed Iran's diplomatic stance, emphasizing that the nation harbors no territorial ambitions. “This government has tried to resolve misunderstandings in bilateral relations between neighbors, and in this regard, we are in a better situation in the region,” he said.
He praised regional unity in opposing Israeli aggression, referencing the condemnation of the Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory on October 26. “It was the first time that all countries in the region condemned Israel’s aggression against Iran, and I appreciate the neighbors for this correct stance.”
Qalibaf warns plotters: Terrorism in Syria will backfire
On his part, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf accused the United States and the Zionist entity of destabilizing Syria, warning that using terrorism as a strategic tool will eventually backfire on its orchestrators.
During a parliamentary session on Sunday, Qalibaf denounced the recent terrorist attacks on Aleppo and other regions in northwestern Syria, which occurred shortly after a ceasefire was established in Lebanon. He stated that the timing of these attacks points to a "Zionist-American plot" aimed at creating insecurity in the region.
Qalibaf emphasized the importance of regional cooperation to counter what he described as a “dangerous conspiracy” and to thwart terrorist activities in Syria and beyond.
Reiterating Iran's unwavering support for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity in combating terrorism, he warned, “The plotters of these measures (in Syria) must bear in mind that playing with the black card of terrorism will one day backfire on them on their own land.”
Araghchi: Iran stands resolute in backing Syria against terrorism
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed Tehran's unwavering support for Syria in its fight against terrorism, emphasizing that Iran stands firmly with the Syrian government and army.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday during the Navy Day ceremony on Kish Island, Araghchi announced his imminent visit to Damascus, stating, “Today, I am leaving for Damascus to convey the message of the Islamic Republic to the Syrian government. We firmly support the Syrian army and government.”
He drew parallels between the Zionist entity and Takfiri terrorist groups, asserting, “We believe that after the Zionist regime's failure, the enemy is trying to implement its sinister plots of destabilizing the region through these terrorist groups.”
Araghchi expressed confidence in Syria’s ability to overcome these challenges, adding, “The Syrian army will once again be victorious over these terrorist groups as in the past.”
It is worth noting that Araghchi is set to visit multiple regional countries for discussions on recent developments, with a particular focus on the situation in Syria, where militants affiliated with the Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, supported by thousands of foreign mercenaries, heavy weaponry, and numerous drones, launched a large-scale offensive from multiple fronts in Aleppo and Idlib.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Bagaei announced that Araghchi will depart Tehran on Sunday for Damascus to hold consultations with Syrian officials.
Following his visit to Syria, Araghchi is scheduled to travel to Ankara for talks with Turkish officials. Bagaei also noted that the Foreign Minister will visit an additional country during this diplomatic tour.
