Trump accuses US Gen. Milley of treason for 'communication with China'
Former US President Donald Trump implies that Gen. Milley is leaving his post in the US Army next week, saying it was a cause to celebrate.
In a new rant, former US President Donald Trump lashed out at US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley for allegedly having been in contact with his counterpart in China to provide insider information, calling it treason, if true.
If the mainstream media outlets, or as he calls them, "Fake News", reports are true, Trump said, then Milley was "actually dealing with China to give them a heads up on the thinking of the President of the United States."
"This is an act so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been DEATH!" he said.
He said he led "the most embarrassing moment in American history", saying his departure from his post would be a "time for all citizens of the USA to celebrate!"
Trump implied that Gen. Milley is leaving his post in the US Army next week. This news was confirmed by the Senate on September 20, putting Gen. CQ Brown to replace him at the end of this month.
Milley will be retiring after 40 years in military service.
This update comes after Milley emphasized the importance of avoiding open armed conflict with China a week ago and steering clear of repeating "great power" conflicts. In an interview with CNN, Milley stated, "We should make every effort to prevent open armed conflict with China."
He also pointed out that the United States had already been involved in two major "great power wars," specifically referring to World War I and World War II.

Earlier on Saturday, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Malta in the latest attempt to ease efforts between the two major powers, AFP reported, citing White House officials.
The White House statement noted that one of the meeting's main takeaways was a commitment from both officials to maintain this strategic channel of communication and to pursue additional high-level engagement.
This may also be an attempt at garnering support from supporters and would-be supporters ahead of the 2024 presidential elections.
