During Former US President Donald Trump's campaigning with the Nevada Republicans, on Saturday, he warned that if Ukraine does not negotiate with Russia, World War III might break out.

"We must demand the immediate negotiation of a peaceful end to the war in Ukraine," Trump said adding that if this does not happen, "we will end up in World War III and there will be nothing left of our planet all because stupid people didn't have a clue, they didn't have a clue. They don't understand, they really don't understand."

Trump's statement comes only days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky officially ruled out negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin in response to his accession of the Donetsk People's Republic, Lugansk's People's Republic, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to the Russian Federation.

In February of 2022, Trump said that recent events in Ukraine would have not been handled in the same way had they happened during his term.

In a statement, he said, “If properly handled, there was absolutely no reason that the situation currently happening in Ukraine should have happened at all. I know Vladimir Putin very well, and he would have never done during the Trump administration what he is doing now, no way!”

This statement came in response to the start of Russia's special operation in Ukraine and when Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that recognizes the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics (DPR and LPR) as well as treaties of friendship, cooperation, and mutual assistance with the two republics.

At the time, Trump also accused the Biden administration of making Russia “very very rich” because of high oil prices.

On the matter, he said, “The weak sanctions are insignificant relative to taking over a country and a massive piece of strategically located land. Now it has begun, oil prices are going higher and higher, and Putin is not only getting what he always wanted, but getting, because of the oil and gas surge, richer and richer."

He noted that during his administration, the US was energy independent and oil prices were low.
