Truss nuke statement perfect start to new 'Austin Powers': Zakharova
Liz Truss' statement is almost out of hollywood.
After British premiership candidate Liz Truss said she feels "ready" to use nuclear weapons, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova remarked that "the frontrunner for the kingdom's next prime minister, who said she would be ready to use nuclear weapons if needed, could do for a perfect start to a new Austin Powers series."
Zakharova made the remark on her Telegram channel on Wednesday.
"This could be a perfect start to a new Austin Powers movie. Now, a female would play the role of the International Man of Mystery," the Russian diplomat remarked ironically.
British premiership candidate Liz Truss declared Tuesday in Birmingham that she feels "ready" to launch Trident nuclear weapons, asserting that making a decision was an "important duty of the prime minister."
There was no mention of when the Conservative candidate would be using nuclear weapons; however, Truss also pledged to raise military spending by 3% of the GDP by the end of the decade.
Truss has been attempting to brand herself as a remake of the 'Iron Lady' - Margaret Thatcher - an ultra-conservative militarist and plutocrat.
Last month, images of Truss' tailored suit compared to a famous photograph of Margaret Thatcher wearing the exact same suit went viral. Users remarked that Truss' suit was tailored down to the last detail.
According to Politico, as of Tuesday, Truss has leveraged 26 points ahead of Rishi Sunak, Britain's wealthiest politician who is also running for the premiership.
