Tunisia transport sector goes against tax raises

The Secretary-General of the Tunisian Labor Union, Noureddine Taboubi, announced on Wednesday that the union is going to "call things by their name" next Tuesday.
"The Union is not afraid of prisons, and it will soon be at the center of the national battle," Taboubi said.
He announced the union's refusal "of tax increase and of the circumvention in raising wages in parallel with raising the value of the tax," calling for a review of the tax schedule.
Taboubi said earlier that the Labor Union refuses to burden the citizens with more fiscal injustice and more taxes, in light of the rising price, Taboubi said earlier, showing readiness to take to the streets in the event that the purchasing power of workers and employees continued to deteriorate."
The General Federation of Transport, part of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) announced on Wednesday organizing a march for the transport sector, in support of what it described as "the sector's entitlements and gains and the legitimate, professional and moral demands of employees."
The Federation is calling for a grant to follow up on services and safety in the transport sector, in addition to the implementation of the agreements signed between the Ministry of Transport, the government and the Syndicate more than two years ago.
Tunisia has been suffering from an economic and financial crisis, exacerbated by the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, in addition to the political instability it has experienced since Tunisian President Kais Saied began imposing exceptional measures.
Inflation in the country continues to rise amid the continued fluctuation in the availability of basic commodities locally and the rise in their prices globally.
