Turkey's potential BRICS accession to enhance bloc's operations
The recent expansion of BRICS could benefit business growth in Turkey, particularly for small and medium-sized companies.
Turkey's possible accession to BRICS could contribute to the bloc's activities in all areas, the head of the Joint Center for Business Cooperation "BRICS", Vicente Barrientos, told Sputnik.
Earlier this week, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan revealed Ankara's desire to join BRICS and pledged to follow the organization's developments.
"I was excited at the news about the Republic of Turkey's desire and intention with regards to joining the BRICS group because for us it would be another evidence of our economic, social, cultural, and educational potential," Barrientos said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
He further explained that Turkey could make a significant contribution to the block, "not only in terms of tourism, which is widely known but also in terms of many other areas of the Turkish economy."
He noted that the recent expansion of the bloc could benefit business growth, particularly for small and medium-sized companies.
Argentina unlikely to accede to BRICS under Milei
Regarding the potential accession of Argentina, Barrientos indicated that it is unlikely to occur during Javier Milei's presidency. However, he suggested that Buenos Aires's stance could shift under a different administration.
In the same context, the Egyptian Minister of Economic Development, Hala Elsaid, stated that Egypt aims to enhance collaboration with BRICS nations, and its inclusion in the bloc will facilitate streamlined trade with other African countries, in remarks to Sputnik.
"When we talk about a state like Egypt, with its distinctive geographical location, the volume of free trade agreements that exist in Egypt, as well as the amount of investments that Egypt has made in the network of ports and roads, this all makes Egypt a very important partner for the BRICS alliance, since it will become a passage and gateway to African countries and will facilitate trade with a number of countries," Elsaid said.
The minister further noted that Egypt has allocated a substantial public investment to enhance infrastructure. "We look forward to greater interaction with the BRICS countries to facilitate investment and stimulate foreign trade," Elsaid said.
