The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Monday that a Turkish warplane carried out a deadly attack on civilians in the countryside between Qomji and Barkh Botan, south of Ain al-Arab (Kobani).
The airstrike hit the home of a farming family, killing nine people, including at least five children, and injuring two others with varying severity.
The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment, while the attack drew widespread condemnation as a "blatant violation" of human rights.
Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported this morning that heavy Turkish shelling struck the grain silos area in Sarrin, south of Ain al-Arab (Kobani) in eastern Aleppo.
The Turkish bombing is part of an ongoing military escalation in northern Syria, further intensifying the suffering of civilians.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights urged the Turkish government to "immediately halt the killing of Syrian civilians and its military operations in northern Syria." It documented that the death toll has reached 650 since the escalation began on December 12, 2024.
The Observatory also described the recent Turkish attacks as an "unprecedented escalation" occurring as Ankara seeks to impose a new reality on the ground amidst increasing calls for the cessation of hostilities.
On March 13, the Turkish military resumed airstrikes on SDF positions near the Tishrin Dam, just one day after an agreement was announced between the transitional president and SDF commander-in-chief Mazloum Abdi.
This move suggests a reversal of the agreement and signals Ankara's dissatisfaction with its terms.
Speaking to Al Mayadeen Net, Kurdish sources stated, "Turkey views itself as a party harmed by the agreement, as it granted clear local recognition to the SDF and acknowledged their role in governing the country."
They further explained that "Ankara reviewed the agreement but was dissatisfied with many of its details."
Late last month, Turkish drones carried out airstrikes on positions held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the al-Shaddadi countryside of southern Hasakah province on February 26, sources told Al Mayadeen.
The strikes, the first of their kind in this area, targeted locations more than 150 kilometers from the Turkish-Syrian border, the sources said.
