UK MP resigns amid accusations of watching porn at Parliament
The Conservative Party says it supports its MP's decision to resign after admitting to watching pornography in the House of Commons twice.
A member of the British Parliament from the ruling Conservative Party, Neil Parish, who was accused of watching porn on his phone at the workplace, has resigned, media reported on Saturday.
Sky News quoted a Conservative Party Spokesperson as saying, "We want to thank Neil Parish for his service to the local people for over 12 years."
"We support his decision to leave the position of Member of Parliament," the Spokesperson added.
Earlier in March, UK media reported that a female minister had seen a male colleague watching pornographic material while sitting next to her in the lower house of the British parliament.
On Friday, Parish was suspended from the Conservative Party pending further investigation into the incident. The Deputy himself confirmed to local media that he had watched a pornographic video in the House of Commons twice.
According to Parish, the first time was accidental, but the second was deliberate, "a moment of madness."
On his website, Parish wrote that "following recent allegations regarding an MP's use of their mobile phone in parliament, I have referred myself to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards in the House of Commons."
At least 56 MPs, including three ministers, are currently being probed over allegations of sexual misconduct by the Parliament's own complaints office.
The Conservative party has been accused of misogyny after the Mail on Sunday last week quoted unnamed Tory MPs accusing the deputy leader of the opposition Labour party, Angela Rayner, of trying to seduce Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
