Seven civilians were killed in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) over the past 24 hours as a result of shelling by Ukraine's armed forces, an LPR envoy said on Saturday.

Rodion Miroshnik, the LPR's envoy in the contact group on the Donbass conflict resolution, further added that 15 civilians were also injured in the attacks.

A kindergarten building was also damaged in the DPR by Kiev's shelling, according to a DPR representative in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire Regime (JCCC).

This comes as Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed on Thursday that Moscow's Armed Forces are not attacking Ukrainian cities, but are instead targeting Ukraine's military infrastructure using precision weapons. Putin announced on Thursday morning that he made a decision to carry out a special military operation in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics.

"Leading NATO countries pursue their own goal by fully supporting Ukraine's extreme Nazis and neo-Nazis, who, in turn, will never forgive the people of Crimea and Sevastopol for their free choice to reunify with Russia", the Russian President said.
