Ukraine: We Need to Hold Direct Talks with Moscow
Ukraine is hinting at the possibility of holding direct talks with Moscow to end the war in Donbas, as Russia accuses it of sending 125,000 soldiers to the conflict zone in Donbas.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country needs to hold direct talks with Moscow in order to end the war against Russian-backed forces in the eastern Donbas region.
"We must tell the truth that we will not be able to stop the war without direct negotiations with Russia, and today this has already been recognized by all, all external partners,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian President was speaking before Parliament after Ukraine urged NATO to prepare for economic sanctions against Moscow and strengthen military cooperation with Kiev "as a way of deterring the Kremlin from launching a new attack after massing troops."
President Zelensky also announced the allocation of unprecedented expenditures on security and defense in 2022, amounting to 12 billion dollars.
Moscow: Kiev sent 125,000 soldiers to Donbas
On the other hand, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Kiev had sent 125,000 soldiers to the conflict zone in Donbas, which is equivalent to half of its forces.
Commenting on Kiev's words about an imminent Russian military attack on Ukraine, Maria Zakharova said that these allegations are mere fits of hysteria, and a maneuver to divert attention from the Ukrainian military operations.
In this regard, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of the consequences of deploying offensive weapons and systems in Ukraine. He mentioned that if any kind of impediment system appears on the territory of Ukraine, the "flight duration of these missile weapons to Moscow will be from 7 to 10 minutes."
In response to these threats coming from the Ukrainian border, Putin said yesterday, in statements he made during a remote investment forum, "We have now successfully tested (a new missile), and from the beginning of the year we will be armed with new hypersonic Mach 9 naval missiles."
