Egypt unveiled its plan to reconstruct Gaza without displacing its residents on Tuesday, during the emergency Arab summit convened in response to Trump's plan to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Strip.
Egypt's reconstruction plan
Cairo's plan to reconstruct Gaza will not be solely Egyptian or Arab, but will also include international support and funding to ensure its implementation, according to the Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who emphasized the plan was designed to "ensure the Palestinian people's dignity and rights" in an announced on March 2.
The plan includes the formation of a Gaza Administration Committee that will oversee the governance of the strip for a six-month transitional period and will constitute of non-partisan technocrats operating under the Palestinian government.
According to the plan, the committee will be established throughout the current phase, paving the way for the full return of the administration, which would oversee the next phase under Palestinian decision-making.
In addition, Egypt and Jordan will train Palestinian police forces to prepare them for deployment in Gaza under the plan, which calls for the mobilization of political and financial support to back Egypt and Jordan's training of Palestinian police.
The emergency Arab summit adopted Egypt's plan to rebuild Gaza, affirming the urgent need for a ceasefire and political resolution to the ongoing crisis in Gaza as negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire deal reached an impasse.
In the final statement, the summit called for achieving a lasting ceasefire in Gaza while noting the considerable challenges facing such a goal and rejecting any forced expulsion of Palestinians from the enclave.
