Union says 7000+ nurses strike starting Monday in New York
The nurses' union in New York City announced that over 7,000 nurses from across two hospitals are on strike following failed negotiations.
A union release revealed that more than 7,000 New York City nurses strike on Monday "after bargaining late into the night at Montefiore and Mount Sinai Hospital yesterday," however, "no tentative agreements were reached."
The release explained that the nuses' strike was for "for fair contracts that improve patient care."
While it's the nurses from two above-mentioned hospitals will be striking, the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) stated that the picketing would take place at four hospitals: Montefiore Moses, Montefiore Weiler, and Montefiore Hutch in the Bronx, and Mount Sinai in Manhattan.
It is worth noting that the NYSNA represents more than 42,000 members, making it the state's largest union for registered nurses.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul released a statement, on Sunday, that urged for binding arbitration and called on the Department of Health to enforce nurse staffing requirements under the law.
