US delaying issuing visas to Lavrov, Russia's UNSC delegation
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov says that "not a single visa has been issued yet" to the Russian delegation.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov pointed out that the United States has not yet provided visas to the Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to attend the United Nations Security Council session.
Ryabkov told reporters that "not a single visa has been issued yet."
When asked about a potential meeting between Lavrov and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in New York, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister indicated that it is far too early to discuss talks while the visa problem is still being worked out.
On Tuesday, Ernest Chernukhin, deputy director of the Russian mission in Vienna, stated that the majority of the Russian delegation, including personnel from the Justice Ministry, did not acquire visas to attend the fifth session of the UN Ad Hoc Committee.
It is noteworthy that Russia took the rotating leadership of the United Nations Security Council on April 1, 2023.
The US has criticized Russia's role and its permanent seat on the Security Council, with White House Spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre claiming that "a country that flagrantly violates the UN Charter and invades its neighbor has no place on the UN Security Council."
