US is plundering Syria's wealth, fighting ISIS is just a pretext: Iran
Iran's Foreign Ministry says the US occupation of parts of Syria is a violation of international law.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the US occupation's attack on non-military targets in the city of Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria, stressing that the Americans are violating international law with their occupation of parts of the Arab country.
"The continued illegal US military presence in Syria and the occupation of part of this country's territory is a violation of international laws," the statement said on Saturday.
"America's claim that its presence in Syria is to fight ISIS is just a pretext for the continuation of the occupation and the plundering of Syrian wealth," it added.
"It can never be forgotten that Major General Soleimani and his Iranian advisors played a critical role in fighting terrorism in Syria."
Iran warns the US occupation
Earlier today, a spokesperson of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Kayvan Khosravi, warned that Iran will respond quickly and decisively to any attack carried out by the United States targeted on any of its legitimate bases in Syria.
"Any pretext for attacking the bases created at the request of the Syrian government to fight with terrorism and ISIL operatives in that country will be immediately met with a reciprocal response," the Iranian official said.
"The United States role in creating and supporting ISIL as a proxy in line with its political objectives in Syria and Iraq is evident to everyone, and in the past two days, American helicopters with several sorties have transferred ISIL terrorists in Syria with the aim of increasing instability in the country, something that they have to be held to account for," he added.
US 'brutal attacks' extension to Israeli and terrorist aggressions
Syria slammed on Saturday the savage aggression carried out by the US occupation forces on several areas in Deir Ezzor Governorate that resulted in the killing of a number of people, the wounding of others, and material damage.
“Syria condemns the brutal attack launched by US forces against some areas in Deir Ezzor Governorate, which caused several fatalities, injuries, and property damage,” the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The US false claims about the attacked sites are nothing but lies in an attempt to justify its heinous aggression, which constitutes a blatant breach of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Ministry added.
These violent attacks aim to smokescreen the US occupation's continued looting of Syria's resources, on top of which is oil, and are an extension to the aggressions carried out by the Israeli occupation and ISIS terrorist groups against the country and its people, the statement read.
US occupation under fire
Several rockets and drones targeted on Friday US occupation bases in the Conoco gas field and Al-Omar oil field east of Deir Ezzor, Eastern Syria.
US helicopters went airborne after the attack over the US Conoco gas fields, east of the Euphrates river, while American fighter jets and artillery responded to the launching positions.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) admitted on Friday that ten rockets targeted coalition forces at the Mission Support Site Green Village compound in northeast Syria, while US officials said one US soldier was wounded.
On Thursday, a drone attack on a US occupation base in eastern Syria led to the killing of one US military contractor and the wounding of seven troops. The Defense Department said the US military responded with "precision airstrikes" in eastern Syria.
