US new sanctions on Iran reveal ill will

In a statement on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran and its Armed Forces are a nightmare for terrorist and extremist groups in the region, and it is only logical that the US, as their godmother, would go to great lengths to support them.

The US has placed illegal and brutal sanctions on the Iranian people and the IRGC for many years and has assassinated the late General Qasem Soleimani during Trump's presidency, according to Khatibzadeh.

The Biden administration has maintained this very poor approach, despite the US President's early misleading words, the Spokesperson said, adding that the recent listing was another sign of the US government's ill intent toward the Iranian people and the continuance of the abject maximum pressure campaign.

According to Khatibzadeh, the US unilateral sanctions are a clear breach of international law, as indicated in a recent statement by the UN special rapporteur, and serve no purpose other than causing pain and suffering to the Iranian people and creating unrest in the region.

Such crimes have no bearing on the Iranian people's and government's willingness to achieve their lofty goals, including the destruction of terrorism in the area, he emphasized.

He stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has the right to respond appropriately in compliance with the principles of international law.
