The Trump administration unveiled on Wednesday its largest sanctions package since reimposing Iran sanctions in 2018. The campaign targets a “vast shipping empire” in Iran involved in transporting oil.
The Treasury Department’s action sanctions over 115 Iran-linked individuals, vessels, and entities across 17 jurisdictions, including shipping firms, front companies, and tankers. The sanctions reportedly aim to limit Iran's oil revenues without triggering disruptions in global energy markets.
Aggressive US tactics reflect revived 'maximum pressure' strategy
The move represents the largest Iran-related sanctions package since the US' unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018 and marks a renewed aggressiveness in targeting the Iranian government and people.
