The US Senate advanced today a foreign aid package of some $95 billion in aid for Ukraine, "Israel" and the Indo-Pacific region.
The series of foreign aid bills were passed on April 20 by the US House of Representatives which then pushed them forward to the Senate for consideration as an amendment to the previous Senate aid bill.
A motion to trigger cloture on a motion to concur with the House amendment was passed by the Senators in a vote of 80 in favor and 19 against, with 60 votes needed to advance the legislation.
This legislation entails around $61 billion in aid for Ukraine, $26 billion in funds for "Israel" and $8 billion for security initiatives in the Indo-Pacific region.
US pushes to deliver military aid to Ukraine before May 9: Politico
Politico reported today, citing sources from the White House, that the US is hoping to send a portion of military aid to Ukraine from the national security supplemental package before May 9.
However, the report notes it is improbable that all the weapons included in the package will be delivered by then.
"It depends on the capability. Some things are easier to transit and others," an official was quoted as saying. "Some aid, like artillery shells … will be going in, but other things may take some more time."
The report further notes that the US anticipates that Ukraine could promptly receive ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), but it may take a longer time for other items such as 155mm artillery to reach the battlefield.
