United States Ambassador to Turkiye and Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, announced on Friday a trilateral agreement between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, and the United States, resulting in a new ceasefire arrangement supported by regional actors.
In a statement posted on X, Barrack described the development as a “breakthrough,” noting that the ceasefire initiative has garnered the backing of Turkiye, Jordan, and Syria’s neighbors.
The envoy urged all armed groups—including Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis—to “put down their weapons” and work alongside Syria’s diverse communities to “build a new and united Syrian identity.”
The statement emphasized that the goal of the ceasefire is not only to halt hostilities but also to pave the way for regional integration and peace. Barrack tagged Netanyahu, al-Sharaa, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the post.

Ceasefire amid growing turmoil
The announcement follows days of intense violence in southern Syria, particularly in the Sweida governorate, where clashes between Druze factions, Bedouin militias, and newly deployed Syrian government forces have resulted in the deaths of hundreds. The transitional Syrian government has denounced the violence and called for the restoration of order under the rule of law.
In a recent statement, the Syrian Presidency affirmed its commitment to protecting civilians and condemned attacks on women and children as "unacceptable by all ethical, legal, and humanitarian standards." It also stressed that the state is for all Syrians, regardless of sect or tribe, and reiterated the central role of the constitution and law in resolving the crisis.
