US to Remove Colombia's FARC from Terrorism List
US media reported that the Biden administration plans to remove FARC from the government's list of foreign terrorist groups.
The Biden administration notified Congress that preparations are underway to remove former Colombian rebel group, Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), from the US list of foreign terrorist organizations, a diplomatic source told AFP.
The decision comes five years after the rebels signed a peace agreement with Bogota.
On his account, Spokesperson Ned Price said on Tuesday that the US State Department started consultations with Congress on forthcoming actions with regard to FARC.
"We have started the process of consulting with Congress on actions that we are taking with regard to the FARC but we will have more details on this in the coming days," Price added during a press briefing.
It is worth mentioning that the FARC has been on the US list of terrorist organizations since 1977.
