The Yemen Executive Mine Action Center (YEMAC) in Sanaa announced on Tuesday that it had discovered remnants of a US-made GBU-39 JDAM bunker-buster bomb used in the American aggression on a detention center building for illegal African migrants inside the Saada Correctional Facility.

The center emphasized that this American-made bomb is one of the most dangerous types of internationally banned weapons and poses an extreme threat to civilians and civilian infrastructure.

It further noted that the use of such highly explosive and destructive weapons against civilian sites "constitutes a grave violation of international law under Article 8, as well as the provisions of the four Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols."

The center also cited that the evidence and the extent of the destruction confirm that this type of American weapon was used.

According to YEMAC, this bomb has the most severe impact on civilians, as its detonation temperature reaches up to 3,500 degrees Celsius.

Its use, the center noted, “leads to a widespread rise in cancer cases, congenital deformities, and fatal births."

"It also devastates the environment, contaminates soil, air, and groundwater, and destroys natural life in affected areas,” it added.

The center emphasized the need to uphold all obligations under international humanitarian law and to adhere to the legal standards governing the use of force, including the protection of civilians' right to life.

It called for a halt to the use of internationally banned bombs in indiscriminate attacks, as such actions result in extensive civilian casualties and severe damage to civilian infrastructure.
