Venezuela restores relations with Honduras, reopens embassy
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister announces restoring diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Honduras after a delegation from Venezuela attended the inauguration of the new President of Honduras.
A delegation from the Venezuelan government has restored the country's embassy in Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras, while Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Palencia announced Friday the restoration of diplomatic relations between his country and Honduras.
Valencia's announcement came after a delegation from Venezuela attended the inauguration of the new President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, in Tegucigalpa.

In a statement to reporters, Deputy Foreign Minister Rander Pena said, "We are stationed here at the embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela," noting that the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has appointed Margot Godoy as Venezuela's ambassador to Tegucigalpa.
A source in President Castro's team said that representatives of Juan Guaido, the US-backed political opponent of Maduro, withdrew from the building they had previously occupied.
The Venezuelan embassy was in the hands of Guaido's supporters, who were recognized by the previous Honduran government headed by Juan Orlando Hernandez in 2019 as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
Xiomara Castro was sworn in as the first female president of Honduras last Thursday in front of a crowd that included US Vice President Kamla Harris, who pledged the US government's support for Honduras.
Castro, the first woman to hold the presidency in Honduras to an oath of office for a four-year term, promising to establish a "socialist and democratic state" in the country.
