War to end shortly after NATO stops arms supply to Ukraine: Medvedev
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman says the war in Ukraine would end shortly after weapons are no longer poured into the country.
According to Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, if the US and its allies stop supplying weapons to Ukraine, the war would come to an end within a few days.
"In NATO, primarily the US and its vassals, stop shipping weapons and munitions to Ukraine, the special military operation would end in several months; and if they stop shipping their weapons now, then the special op will end in mere days," TASS quoted Medvedev as saying.
"Actually, any war, even a world war, can stop very fast," he continued.
"Either if a peace treaty is signed or if one does what the US did in 1945 when it used its nuclear weapons and bomber to Japanese cities - Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They have, indeed, ended the war campaign back then, at a cost of lives of almost 300,000 civilians."
While pointing out that the Russian army is "modern and heroic," the official said it "experiences certain problems, like any army."
By the end of May, Medvedev said the Ukraine war could last for years, possibly for decades to come.
Medvedev underlined at the time that NATO was not assessing the possibility of a nuclear war rationally, noting that events could unfold "unpredictably" and escalate past the point of no return.
He put the responsibility for such an event solely on NATO.
In a similar vein, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the ongoing deliveries to Ukraine by the West were prolonging the conflict, noting that Eastern Europe was witnessing the "tensest situation".
Shoigu pointed out then that Washington and its allies are resorting to "destructive measures" to create "hotbeds of tension" in the vicinity of CSTO countries, stressing that this is leading to a negative impact.
