Washington: Ready to act against those obstructing Somalia’s path to peace
The US State Department African Affairs Bureau affirms support for the Somali Prime Minister's efforts to hold elections.
The US State Department African Affairs Bureau said today, Tuesday, that it is prepared to take action against whoever obstructs Somalia’s path to peace.
The office indicated that the attempt to disrupt the work of the Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble raises concern and stressed support for his efforts to hold "quick and credible" elections.
Somalian President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed stated Monday that Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble had been suspended, a day after the two men clashed over the country's long-delayed elections.
The office of the President said in a statement that "the President decided to suspend Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and stop his powers since he was linked with corruption.”
This comes after the Somali President exchanged accusations with the Prime Minister, earlier, of disrupting the ongoing parliamentary elections in a dispute that analysts say may distract the authorities from focusing on their fight against Al-Shabab Movement linked to al-Qaeda.
