West aiding Ukraine attack deep in Russia: CNN
The Ukrainian source told CNN that flights are predetermined in coordination with allies and that the drones follow a flight plan.
Western countries are assisting Ukraine to fly kamikaze drones deep inside Russian territory, CNN reported on April 2, citing a source close to Kiev’s drone program.
Speaking with CNN, a Ukrainian source close to the drone program elaborated on how Kiev uses UAVs with longer ranges and “more advanced capabilities” to strike targets located more than 1,000km from the border.
The source said, “The flights are determined in advance with our allies, and the aircraft follow the flight plan to enable us to strike targets with meters of precision.”
This comes after multiple reports surfaced of Western personnel giving Ukrainian troops intelligence and information about specific targets.
One of these reports was by The Washington Post last year, as it cited a senior Ukrainian official who said that Ukrainian soldiers “almost never” use advanced weapons, including US-made HIMARS rocket launchers, without getting coordinates from the Pentagon.
Drone strike hit Russia's Tatarstan, a first so far
The city of Elabuga in the Russian Republic of Tatarstan was been hit by a drone strike on April 2, the first attack of its kind in the region, according to local officials.
In the city located approximately 650km east of Moscow, the drone attack injured seven people. However, Rustam Mannikhanov, Tatarstan's leader, said that no serious damage was recorded in the attack that targeted the industrial zone in Elabuga.
The zone's chief manager, Timur Shagivaleev, said two drones were involved in the attack hinting that Ukraine was behind the aggression.
"They attack shopping centers in Moscow, they attack residential areas in Belgorod, they attack workers’ accommodation in Elabuga. Those are the kind of people we are conducting the special military operation against," the chief stressed.
Moreover, the Mayor of Nizhnekamsk, Ramil Mulin, where the drone attack happened stressed that the unmanned aerial vehicle was thwarted by electronic countermeasures forcing it to deviate from its initial target as it was headed towards an oil refinery.
