White House: Biden condemns Russian missile strikes on Ukraine
Biden condemns Russia's missile strikes on Ukraine, saying non-military infrastructure was targeted in the attacks.
The White House said on Monday that US President Joe Biden condemned the Russian missile attacks on Ukraine on Monday and said that non-military infrastructure were targeted.
"The United States strongly condemns Russia's missile strikes today across Ukraine, including in Kyiv. These attacks killed and injured civilians and destroyed targets with no military purpose. They once again demonstrate the utter brutality of Mr. [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s illegal war on the Ukrainian people," Biden said.
He further extended Washington's condolences to the victims' families, saying that these attacks by Russia "will only reinforce our commitment to stand with the people of Ukraine for as long as it takes," adding that the US and its allies will "impose costs on Russia for its aggression," and hold "Putin and Russia accountable for its atrocities and war crimes."
Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin told a Russian Security Council meeting that Kiev has so far conducted three terrorist acts against the nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye. "These are acts of atomic terrorism. I mean rocket and artillery strikes on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant."
The Russian President further announced in the meeting that his country conducted an attack today on Ukraine's infrastructure, using precision-guided missiles.
The escalation comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Ukrainian special services authorized and carried out the explosion on the Crimean Bridge, which was a terrorist attack aimed at destroying Russia's essential infrastructure.
