The US and the UK have lately warned their citizens to avoid hotels in Afghanistan.
The White House announced in a statement that President Biden held a virtual meeting with G20 leaders to discuss Afghanistan, adding that leaders of G20 guest countries and international financial institutions joined the G20 Leaders.
In a statement on its website, the White House detailed that the leaders discussed the critical importance of maintaining a laser-like focus on long-term counterterrorism efforts, including countering ISIS-K threats and ensuring safe passage for foreign nationals and Afghan partners with documentation seeking to leave Afghanistan.
“The Leaders also reaffirmed their collective commitment to provide humanitarian assistance directly to the Afghan people through independent international organizations, and to promote fundamental human rights for all Afghans, including women, girls, and members of minority groups,” according to the statement.
On its account, the US stressed its commitment “to work closely with the international community using diplomatic, humanitarian, and economic means to address the situation in Afghanistan and support the Afghan people”.
Besides, the US and the UK warned their citizens to avoid hotels in Afghanistan on Monday, just days after dozens were killed at a mosque in an attack claimed by ISIS-K.
