Zakharova: "Democracy Summit" participants will serve US interests
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova says the US is destroying the system of international relations based on international law.
Russian Foreign Minsitry Spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, announced that Washington will bestow upon those participating in the "Summit for Democracy", which is scheduled on December 9 and 10, the "honor" of serving US interests.
On the statement of the National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, who said that the system of international relations is changing at the moment, and its current post-WWII UN-led structure is gradually becoming a thing of the past, Zakharova commented today, Thursday, on her Telegram page that this is exactly what Russia has been saying for three years.
She said that the US is destroying the system of international relations based on international law and the central role of the UN, in order to establish its own comfort zone that Washington plans to dominate single-handedly.
The Spokesperson also said that this is the reason why the United States is organizing the "Summit for Democracy", which will give those participating the "honor" of serving US interests.
She concluded that Sullivan's statement can be interpreted along different lines, calling it "satirical" or a "statement issued in cold blood," but the one thing that cannot be refuted is its honesty. For the first time in years, Sullivan has called a spade a spade, Zakharova said.
The summit
The US invited 110 countries to partake in a video summit on "democracy", which included Taiwan but excluded China, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, and a number of other large countries.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier said that this summit aims to divide countries into democratic and non-democratic.
Russia and China's ambassadors to the US published a joint article in The National Interest on the two countries' opposition to this summit.
