Zakharova: Washington is accused of spreading lies about Ukraine
The Russian Foreign MinistrySpokesperson says the US uses deception to justify attacks on civilians across the world.
On Sunday, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Washington of continuing to spread lies about Ukraine, explaining that US politicians continue to lie and create pretexts to attack civilians around the world.
Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel, "The world knows constantly lies. As for those who have forgotten how Washington creates pretexts for every attack, they should review US Secretary of State Colin Powell's speech to the UN Security Council on February 5, 2003."
She added that Powell himself later admitted that during his address to the Security Council he had made a decision about the invasion of Iraq and that he was upset because it turned out that many of the statements made to the Security Council were wrong.
More than 1,000 experts confirmed in a report issued after the invasion of Iraq that no weapons of mass destruction were found in this country, she stressed.
Zakharova concluded by saying that American politicians "still lie, it is a well-known fact." She stressed on American ruling class representatives "not to burden their consciences with a new lie, although I am not sure that they have consciences or not."
Crisis in Ukraine
Zakharova's statement comes in light of the raging crisis in Ukraine, and the US National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, announced yesterday that the US administration cannot predict when the war will start in Ukraine, explaining that "the war may never happen."
Earlier, after a call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Joe Biden, the Russian Kremlin stated that "the call between the two presidents took place amid unprecedented hysteria, which was caused by Washington's allegations about the possible Russian invasion of Ukraine."
The Kremlin added that Putin, during the call between him and Biden, denounced the false information about the "Russian invasion" in Ukraine, and told the US president that "the West is not putting enough pressure on Ukraine to implement the Minsk agreements."
