Champions League: Liverpool, Porto advanced to Round of 16
Reds earned a Round of 16 visa with a 3-0 victory over Ajax, while Porto advanced with a win on Matchday 5.
Liverpool advanced to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 after defeating Ajax 3-0 in Group A Matchday 5.
Egyptian player Mohammad Salah scored Liverpool's first goal in the 42nd minute at Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam. Darwin Nunez scored the Reds' second goal in the 49th minute of the second half, and Harvey Elliott scored another for the English club just two minutes later to score 3-0.
Liverpool needed to avoid defeat to advance to the Round of 16, while Ajax is on its way to the UEFA Europa League.
Napoli, which had already qualified, won five games out of five in Group A, including a 3-0 victory over the Rangers of Scotland on Wednesday.
Bayern Munich, which won its fifth game against Barcelona 3-0 on Wednesday in Group C, is another club with five wins in five matches.
Meanwhile, Porto advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating Club Brugge 4-0, while Atletico Madrid was held to a 2-2 draw by Bayer Leverkusen in Group B.
Mehdi Taremi, a Porto forward, scored twice in the 33rd and 79th minutes at Bruges' Jan Breydel Stadium. Evanilson scored in the 57th minute, and Stephen Eustaquio scored in the 60th.
Club Brugge leads Group B with 10 points, followed by Porto with 9 points. Atletico Madrid is third with 5 points, while Leverkusen is fourth with 4 points.
