FIFA hopes to enhance its brand when moving to the US
The world's ruling football organization is aiming to expand its global reach from Zurich to the United States. A choice that is influenced by several factors, including the appropriateness of the site, obtaining visas for overseas employees, and tax regulations.
FIFA's push for such substantial changes is emblematic of Gianni Infantino's tenure as president, elected in 2016. He is a Swiss national who has attempted to make substantial changes to FIFA and soccer, with varying success. He has increased the number of teams in the World Cup, which generates more than 90 percent of FIFA's income, from 32 to 48.
Officials believe that a change in location will attract and retain significant members, according to the New York Times, due to the difficulty of the organization in Zurich finding talent.
How much of a presence the organization would keep in Switzerland is yet Undecided.
Relocating to the US would offer FIFA a chance to expand its business operations. Furthermore, relocating at this time would give it more clout in the future World Cup in 2026, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Additionally, some senior FIFA executives believe that the shift would bring it closer to Wall Street and major U.S. companies, as well as provide an opportunity to considerably boost revenues and find partners to finance new events and invest in the rising popularity of women's soccer.
