Mourinho makes history as Roma wins 1st ever Europa Conference League
Jose Mourinho has won his 5th European cup after raising the first-ever Europa Conference League trophy with AS Roma to make history.
On Wednesday, Portuguese Jose Mourinho became the first manager ever to hold and raise the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy after his Roma side beat Feyenoord in the final.
"Football is about winning and Mourinho wins," former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves said on BT Sport.
"He's a serial winner and he has brought this Roma team to life."
Feyenoord dominated possession in Tirana, but Roma took the lead in 32 minutes with their first shot of the match and held on for a priceless 1-0 win.
Midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, who had scored a hat-trick in Roma's quarter-final victory over Bodo/Glimt, produced a superb two-touch finish after a long-range pass from Gianluca Mancini.
"The great thing about my career is that, aside from the Europa League with Manchester United, doing it with Porto, Inter and Roma is very, very, very special," Mourinho said, adding, "It is one thing to win when everyone expects it, when you made the investments to win, but it's quite another to win when something feels immortal, that feels truly special."
In the second half, Feyenoord applied much more pressure and struck the Roma post two times.
But Roma held on to win their first piece of silverware since 2008 Coppa Italia. It had never won a major European trophy before, unlike Mourinho.
This was Mourinho's 5th major European final, and he has not been on the losing side in any of the five.
"This remains in the history of Roma, but also mine. I was told only I, Sir Alex [Ferguson] and Giovanni Trapattoni won trophies in three different decades. It makes me feel a little old, but it's nice for my career," Mourinho added.
