Tennis superstar Serena Williams to compete in US Open in September
After yesterday's defeat, Williams still looks for a challenge.
American tennis superstar Serena Williams said that she would like to play in the US Open Tennis Championships, which will be held from August 29 to September 11. The event is one of the four Grand Slam major annual championships.
On Tuesday, Williams, who is 40 years old, lost in the first round of a Wimbledon match to Harmony Tan, a French tennis player. This was the first game for Williams since mid-2021.
"When you're at home, especially in New York, and the US Open, that being the first place I've won a Grand Slam, is something that's always super special. Your first time is always special. There's definitely lots of motivation to get better and to play at home," Williams said after the game, as quoted by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on Wednesday.
During her career, Williams won 23 Grand Slam titles.
After winning against Williams yesterday, Tan remarked: “When I saw the draw, I was really scared,” continuing, “Because it’s Serena Williams, she’s a legend. I was like, oh my God. How can I play? If I could win one game, or two games, it’s really good for me.’
