According to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) on Wednesday, the Turkish Football Federation withdrew its bid to host the European Football Championship in 2028, also known as Euro 2028.

In its statement, the UEFA said: "As indicated by the FA [Football Association] of Turkey with its submission of the request for a joint bid, their bid to stage UEFA EURO 2028 is consequently withdrawn."

The statement also added that on October 10, the UEFA Executive Committee will consider bids for hosting the 2028 and 2032 tournaments.

Back in July, the football federations of Italy and Turkey initially requested to merge their bids into one for the 2032 tournament. The UEFA confirmed on Wednesday that the proposal would move forward for assessment and consideration by the UEFA Executive Committee.

In November 2022, the Football Associations of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Ireland submitted a joint application to host the Euro 2028.

In May 2022, the Association rejected Russia's bid to host Euro 2028 and 2032 after recognizing it as non-eligible.

UEFA said that its decision to rule Russia out as a host followed its regulations that each bidder should "not act in a manner that could bring UEFA, the UEFA final or UEFA final phase, any other bidder the bidding procedure or European football into disrepute."

Russia's national teams and clubs have been suspended from international football by FIFA and UEFA due to the country's military operation in Ukraine.

Today, the UK and Ireland final bid to host UEFA EURO 2028 has been submitted.

The bid shows how our nations are collaborating to stage an historic football festival for all of Europe and take the tournament to new heights.#UKIreland2028
