Zidane to replace Pochettino, manage PSG
Several reports claim that Zinedine Zidane is set to coach Paris Saint-Germain.
It seems that former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is close to managing French champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), as media reports claimed that it’s only a matter of time before the French team sacks manager Mauricio Pochettino.
During his first season in Paris, Pochettino helped PSG win the Ligue 1 title. However, his team's failure to win against Real Marid in the Champions League round of 16 might cost him his position as manager.
Despite the rumors, the Argentine still has one year remaining on his contract with PSG.
"I have another year left on my contract and there are lots of rumors. I've been sacked every week [according to media], being at PSG brings with it that kind of thing," he told Catalan outlet Esport3.
Traveling to Qatar to finalize contract
However, RMC Sport’s Daniel Riolo revealed that Zinedine Zidane will be PSG's next coach.
Similarly, Mundo Deportivo's Ramon Fuentes claimed that the Qatari-owned PSG is already set to welcome Zidane.
According to Sport Bible, "The French legend is said to be traveling to Qatar to finalize his contract with PSG's owners, with the deal expected to be formally completed on Saturday."
But PSG Talk pointed out that "Zidane is a complicated objective since he might have his eyes on the France national team job."
It is noteworthy that Zidane, 49, has been on a break from coaching ever since departing from Madrid at the end of the 2020-21 season.
During his time in the Spanish club, he won La Liga twice and the Champions League three times.
Macron wishes to see Zidane in France
In the same context, French President Emmanuel Macron revealed on Wednesday that he wishes to see Zidane coaching in France.
"I haven't spoken [to Zidane], but I have great admiration for him, as a player and coach," he told RMC Sport.
"I hope, for the impact on the French league and for France, that [Zidane] comes back and coaches a big French club, it would be great," the French President expressed.
Macron considered that "My role is to say that France is a great nation for sport and football, that there are great people who love this sport. It is important for us that the best players we have trained, who have sometimes shone at international level, can come back."
It is noteworthy that Macron admitted a few days earlier that he advised French player Kylian Mbappe to renew his contract with PSG in light of Real Madrid's interest in him.
