Erdogan: Turkey to produce 1m TOGG electric cars in next 7 years
The first delivery of the vehicles is expected to take place in July after more than 177,400 people submitted preorders for the vehicle.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed on Wednesday that the country intends to manufacture 1 million Turkish-made TOGG electric vehicles within the next seven years as a result of the significantly high demand for electric cars in Turkey.
"In seven years, you will see one million TOGG electric cars on the roads," Erdogan relayed to journalists, while not ruling out a meeting with Turkish bank representatives with the aim of discussing loans for citizens to buy the cars.
The first owners of the car were Erdogan and his wife, Emine, who received one earlier this month. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev have also received TOGG electric cars as a gift from the president.
Back in October, the car manufacturer TOGG celebrated with an official opening ceremony at the plant for the production of the vehicles, which will be manufactured in two versions: a sedan and an SUV.

Featuring a 160-kilowatt battery and the ability to cover 195 miles on one charge, the cheapest TOGG vehicle will cost over $50,000.
The first delivery of the vehicles is expected to take place in July after more than 177,400 people submitted preorders for the vehicle.
“Togg was born as a symbol of the technological development, economic development and global reputation of our country,” Erdogan said earlier this month.
According to BloombergNEF's Economic Transition Scenario in 2021, electric vehicles (EVs) will account for more than two-thirds of passenger car sales globally by 2040, with Europe and China leading the way.
It's worth mentioning that there are currently more than 500 EV models on the market worldwide.
